Government of Chukotka Autonomous Area and Morsviazsputnik signed a cooperation agreement
The Government of Chukotka Autonomous Area and Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Morsviazsputnik”signed a Cooperation Agreement. The document was signed by the Governor-Chairman of the Government of Chukotka Autonomous Area Roman Kopin and Morsviazsputnik General Director Andrey Kuropyatnikov.
The agreement is aimed at the developing a long-term and effective cooperation in order to create and develop a telecom infrastructure for residents and organizations of Chukotka Autonomous Area. The basis for the projects implementation will be the constructed transarctic submarine fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) – “Polar Express” - operated by Morsviazsputnik.
The agreement considers the interaction of the parties when connecting Pevek and Anadyr cities to submarine FOCL “Polar Express”, as well as the implementation of solutions for the development of a unified information infrastructure in the eastern part of the Chukotka Autonomous Area territory and assessment of the possibility of organizing of the taps-off from the FOCL “Polar Express” to Provideniya, Egvekinot, Lavrentiya and Beringovskiy settlements.
"The development of trunk communication networks in the Arctic is becoming the foundation of economic and social changes in the region. I am sure that the signing of today's cooperation agreement is an important stage for solving technical challenges aimed at creating the digital infrastructure of Chukotka Autonomous Area by our joint efforts, "said Andrey Kuropyatnikov, Morsviazsputnik General Director.
“Chukotka Autonomous Area is a strategic region for the Northern Sea Route, and Pevek, Provideniya and Anadyr are the base ports. One of the main tasks is to ensure stable communications throughout the Arctic water area and connect our district to broadband Internet. I am sure that cooperation with Morsviazsputnik will provide positive changes for residents and the district as a whole," commented Roman Kopin, Governor of Chukotka Autonomous Area.
